The “Mindfulness for Parents” workshop is designed to introduce parents to the basic principles of mindfulness, dispelling any myths and explaining the evidence for its benefits.
Parenting can be rewarding, but it can be stressful as well. Using mindfulness, we can learn to slow down and attend with greater compassion and kindness to our children, so that we can fully appreciate the moments we share with them.
During the first part of the workshop there will be an introduction to mindfulness: what it is and practical exercises to enhance awareness and emotional balance. During the second part of the workshop, parents will gain an understanding of how bringing empathy, compassion and mindful communication to the relationship with their children can enhance peaceful parenting and the emotional health of children.
Participants will be invited to engage in a number of activities.
Mindfulness can enhance our ability to:
• Pay attention and improve concentration
• Experience a calmer mind and increased ability to relax
• Manage our emotions and improve impulse control
• Increase self-awareness and acceptance of who we are, and reduce the
impulse to be someone or somewhere else
• Respond, instead of reacting, to difficult situations
