FR Le trompettiste Roy Hargrove, tête d’affiche du North Sea Jazz Festival 2015, nous fait l’honneur de sa visite exceptionnelle à Bruxelles le 8 juillet prochain. Une première à Bruxelles depuis plus de 5 ans !

Figure emblématique du jazz contemporain, Roy Hargrove a su étendre sa musique et sa popularité bien au-delà de ce style musical. Récompensé par un Grammy avec son projet Afro-Cubain « Cristol » et « Directions in Music » (avec Herbie Hancock et Michael Brecker), il est aussi un pionnier du funk nu-jazz avec son groupe mythique RH Factor (« Hard Groove », « Distractions »). Sa discographie est à l'image de sa musique : riche et sans cesse renouvelée (« Emergence » avec le Roy Hargrove Big Band, ou « Earfood » en quintet)

Son son distinctif et son groove unique font de lui l'un des musiciens les plus sollicités au monde. D’Erikah Badu à Shirley Horn, en passant par D’Angelo et John Mayer, il a accompagné de grands artistes d'horizons divers. 

A Bruxelles, il viendra avec la crème des musiciens new-yorkais (Justin Robinson, Sullivan Fortner, Ameen Saleem, Quincy Phillips) pour un concert immanquable.

Als icoon van de jazz wist hij zijn populariteit tot ver buiten het genre uit te breiden, en komt hij welverdiend aan zijn huidige belangrijke en commerciële sterrenstatus als kernfiguur van het genre.

Hij won Grammy’s met het afro-Cubaanse project ‘Cristol’ en ‘Directions in Music’ (met Herbie Hancock en Michael Brecker), maar ook was hij een ware pionier met de funky new-jazz van de ‘RH Factor’ (‘Hard Groove’ & ‘Distractions’).

Immer strevend naar meer uitdagende muzikale richtingen liet Hargrove een onuitwisbare blauwdruk na in een uitgebreide waaier aan stijlen. Vernieuwend zonder meer, luister maar naar ‘Emergence’ met de Roy Hargrove bigband of ‘Earfood’ met zijn quintet!

Hargrove’s gemakkelijk te onderscheiden trompet kan je horen op ontelbare albums, zo werkte samen met artiesten van Erykah Badu tot Shirley Horn en van D’Angelo tot John Mayer.
