La WFD est une organisation internationale non gouvernementale et sans but lucratif des associations de sourds. Elle dénombre pas moins de 133 pays membres. Le but de la WFD est de promouvoir les droits humains des sourds en incluant la reconnaissance de la langue des signes dans tous les aspects de la vie. Pour mener à bien cette mission, la WFD s’appuie sur les droits inscrits dans Convention des Nations Unies relative aux droits des personnes handicapées (CRPD) et sur les principes soulignés dans l’Agenda 2030 et ses Objectifs de Développement Durable (SDGs).

The WFD is an international non-profit and non-governmental organisation of deaf associations with a current membership of 133 countries worldwide. The vision of the WFD is to promote human rights of deaf people including recognition of sign language(s) in all aspects of life. To fulfill its mission, the WFD is guided by the rights enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the principles underlined within the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
