Supporting your teammate can come in a lot of different shapes and forms. What if one of them was by making their life (or your own) hell on earth? Learn how to get super-inspired and have new levels of fun on stage through torturing yourself or your partner. Learn how to be playful about it and you'll have the audience rolling on the floor laughing (ROTFL as the cool kids say nowadays).

About Menelaos PROKOS from Greece:

Menelaos Prokos is an improviser based in Athens, Greece. His improv brain, though, grew in Austin, TX. After some years of classes, workshops, rehearsals, troupes, shows, rehearsals, ensembles, rehearsals (the most difficult word to type deserves to be here 3 times!), he moved back to his hometown, where he founded ImproVIBE, the country's first and -currently- only improv school and theater. During the years of ImproVIBE's operation he's been teaching day-in day-out the art of improv, taking the students from their very first improv baby steps, to advanced longform shows and everything in between.
He regularly runs applied improv workshops for local businesses and multinational corporations the likes of Pfizer, Vodafone, and Nestle. Outside of Greece, he has taught/performed in Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden, Turkey, Spain, Finland, Germany, Estonia, USA, France. He performs regularly with his main troupe, "Bus Kai" (a narrative duo with Vasiliki Kissa), as well as with the "Bad Ideas". During this period of time, his teaching primarily focuses on eradicating the fear and pushing the students towards enjoying everything they do on stage. A phrase that perfectly encapsulates the way he enjoys performing is one once said by Del Close: "Improv is a primarily comedic form of theater that can tear your heart out at any given moment.".
He is also the producer of Mt Olymprov, Greece's International improv Festival taking place every June in Athens. More than anything, he believes very strongly in the power of improv to make better people and constantly works towards its dissemination in Greece and beyond.
When not swimming the improv seas, he spends most of his free time cycling, playing (as well as performing at) escape room games and cleaning up the mess his dogs make.

Improv Workshop #12: "Go Team"

la Fabrique de Théâtre
10, rue du Hohwald - 67000 strasbourg
En savoir plus

"Go team!" (beginners / intermediate)

I always say an improvisers mind is like an octopus: every tentacle connects with each improviser on stage. Meaning I strive to know where each player is on stage at any moment and finding way to make them look good.
In the workshop we will put focus on group work: we will explore the group social and physical dynamic, we will dive into group scenes and learn how to support from the sides and stay in contact with the scene from the sides.
Side note: it will get physical, so comfortable clothes are recommended.

About Sara Soukal from Slovenia:

Sara has been improvising since she was 11. She got to know improvisation first through short form impro in ŠILA: high school competition in improvisational theatre. In that time, she would, with her group, win 3 titles as national champions in ŠILA. And when leaving high school she also dived into longform improvisation theatre. Soon she established her own company, KUD Impromobile, while still performing in Impro liga: the national competition in theatre improvisation. Getting more and more stage time, she would also take a lot of workshops, as she still does, trying to get as much knowledge as possible. In 2012 she would be invited to Seattle impro festival (Unexpected productions) and decided to say goodbye to her Doctorate studies in geography and put her energy into improvisational theatre.
At the moment she is working as a performer in: impro theatre for kids (Pravljičarija), exploring gender roles on impro stage (Improške), Theatersports (Impro liga, 2 times champion and 2 times best female improviser), longform laboratory (Impromobile). Regularly she collaborates with IGLU (Improvisational theatre of Ljubljana) and other impro projects. She is also a part of Ohana, international European impro project, that brings improvisers from all over Europe to share knowledge and explore impro theatre.
She is teaching since 2008, mainly teenagers but in the last years she is also teaching adults and students through IGLU impro school. She also gave workshops in Paris and Zurich. She is very interested in working with kids with special needs, and is at the moment involved into an inclusive project for kids with special needs doing impro.
As an organiser she is in charge of Improgojnica (organising extra workshops for improvisers in National impro theatre league), she tutors new mentors in junior national impro theatre sports league and she is coordinating a section of cultural programme in Trubar literature house, dedicated to improvisational theatre (Impro atelje).
She is also travelling around as a performer (Seattle, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Leuven, Budapest) or teacher (Paris, Zurich)and still goes to do workshops at festivals (Berlin, Seattle, Wurzburg).
When she is not on stage she likes to surf on the waves, eat good food, hang out with friends, go hiking or writing poetry. Sometimes she even has time to sleep!

Vasiliki Kissa is an actress, won over by Improv Theater. After attempting to adapt to a “normal” career, studying Tourism Management in Heraklion, Crete, she returned to Athens to follow her first and great desire, acting.

Since then things have been getting better and better! After graduating “Theater of Arts, Karolos Koun”, she performed to her first play as a professional actress and at the same time she crossed paths with Improv Theater. It was love at first sight. Go beyond the shallow scenes that get a laugh and produce a play that will change you forever. Improv Theater is very powerful. Unleash that force.

“The strategy behind a character” (All levels)

Occupation, wants and dreams are not the only things that define a character. Even though we’re improvising it’s good to have a strategy for your characters growth and influence in the story you’re creating. The saying: “If you have a great character, the story will find you” is absolutely true, but to develop a character that does not get stuck in the plot twists can sometimes be devastating. In this workshop we’ll create, research and strengthen the characters.

la Fabrique de Théâtre
10, rue du Hohwald - 67000 strasbourg
En savoir plus

"The Bench" (All levels)

The Bench is a slow improv format that we heavily work on. We believe in the beauty of taking things slowly on stage. Discovering the little elements that make a difference and can feed our impulses is what trains our observation skills and helps us read our scene partner much better and in much more depth. Ultimately, The Bench trains us to focus on building very strong relationships on stage, that take our scenes to a much deeper and meaningful level.

This workshop will do exactly as it says. Take things slow, so don't expect crazy high energy.

About Bus Kai ( Billy KISSA and Menelaos PROKOS) from Greece:

Bus Kai is an improv theater duo, passionate for creating stories with strong relationships and characters that make you want to be them. If you are not already them.

It may be just two of us, but you will see more characters develop on stage. Usually, at the same time!

We are based in Athens, Greece, and that is where we primarily teach and perform. We run ImproVIBE, Greece's first -and currently- only improv theater. Since we got together in 2012, we have been performing our weekly show non-stop, along with extra occasional appearances.
However, we often take our craft elsewhere. We've performed in many cities all around Greece. In occasion that we happened to have our passports with us, we taught and/or performed in Turkey, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Spain, Sweden, France, Estonia. We are looking forward to adding more countries to this list.

Oh, what our name means. Bus Kai (pronounced "bus ké") is a play on words for a Greek phrase, "Μπας και...", which is pronounced the same way. It means "just in case", "you never know", which we found quite relevant to our art. At that point, we thought "Hey, why not say "bus" instead of "μπας".
