Program:

Barkas:
Currently living in Vancouver, Canada, I am a bondage educator, performance artist, writer and event organizer.

I became an Osada Ryu instructor in 2011 when I opened the Shibari Dojo Vienna. Since then I am one of the 3 licenced Osada Ryu instructors of the world. In 2015 I got a „given name“ by Yukimura Haruki Sensei. Harutsuyu. This honour allows me to teach Yukimura Ryu as well. Another huge influence is the friendship with Nawashi Kanna Sensei and Kagura San, which started I co-organized their first tour outside of Japan in 2013. As a product of this high level education, I developed my own, very specific style called “Ranboo”, which is a highly dynamical and stormy way of doing and thinking Kinbaku.

Addie:
Addie is a switchey rope enthusiast who has been travelling and co-teaching with her partner Barkas since 2015. She has greatly enjoyed their adventures thus far, and is curious to see where this journey takes her next.

What is it?

Rope in Europe is experiencing an exponential growth, with an established existing community and unforeseen numbers of eager newcomers across multiple cities and venues. While this is very exciting, it also means the community-builders of our rope-scenes will face new challenges.

RopeWork.Org is a participant driven, unconference style meeting during a weekend in Paris in which you and me and everyone else attending brings knowledge to the table. During this meta–rope event we will facilitate a variety of discussions, workshops, skill-shares, and roundtables on issues connected to event organising, teaching and performing with ropes.

Topics may include: exchanging teaching skills and techniques, strategies for rope organisers for growing and engaging their communities, setting up rope and community driven spaces, marketing strategies, insurance and safety consideration for venues and performers/artists. We also welcome more theoretical discussion topics on how we see the rope community growing and changing in Europe.

We will both have scheduled sessions as well as open spaces in order to facilitate the best possible weekend for everyone involved. We will run parallel sessions and session topics will be decided on the first day of the (un)conference.

Gorgone’s method and approach to ropes is deeply influenced by her practice of yoga and other bodyworks together with many years of professional experience on both sides of the rope. Her teaching is directed to both riggers and models, guiding them into developing active, conscious and efficient partnership in order to create succesful rope experiences. She takes time with her students to study and deconstruct the basics to help reinforce every party’s understanding of the rope’s and body’s mechanics before going on to more complex structures and sequences. Her pedagogy focuses on encouraging and developing independency, freedom and creativity in the student's practice while maintaining a fundamental background of safety, knowledge and awareness.
