Description
Climate change strongly affects indigenous peoples. It seems essential to take into account their voices and their feedback about the consequences they undergo. How do indigenous peoples adapt to their changing environment and what solutions do they have? Indigenous peoples have a traditional and sustainable way of life in harmony with nature. They are holders of traditional knowledge and can share alternative and sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change.
Through this side event organized during the COP21 by the Regional Council of Ile-de-France with France Libertés - Fondation Danielle Mitterrand and the association Paroles de Nature, indigenous people’s representatives, experts and NGOs will gather in the Nelson Mandela auditorium of the Climate Generations areas to highlight and answer the following questions:
- What is the relationship between indigenous peoples, climate, forests and water?
- What are the major threats to the traditional lifestyles of indigenous peoples and how do they cope with it?
- What are the alternative solutions to climate change and adaptation techniques coming from traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples?
- What kind of partnership can be developed between our territories to fight against climate change in an efficient way?
