Description
Lord Aaron Kenneth Ward-Atherton was born and educated in the West Midlands, his lineage includes several generations of master goldsmiths in the famous Birmingham jewellery district, and the Cawley family – the late 3rd Baron who was previously Deputy Chairman of Committees at the House of Lords.
Lord Ward-Atherton has an extensive NHS Healthcare Professional background, initially training and registering RN at Walton Hospital Liverpool in preparation to study medicine. A month before starting medical undergraduate training in Dublin in 1976, he suddenly began losing partial vision and the ability to walk, following neurological investigations at a specialist unit he was diagnosed with early multiple sclerosis (MS).
With news at the time of the amazing recovery in Germany of an Australian Olympic runner with MS and with little hope his illness would improve, he sought Homeopathic treatment at the same specialist clinic near Stuttgart in Germany, under the care of the late Prof Reinhold Voll MD MSc eventually making a full recovery. This ultimately led to a career change to study Homeopathic medicine at MB BS level in Germany.
He has been a Licentiate of the Faculty of Homeopathy since 1996 and a member of the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths, and is proud to have attended the classes in the early days of the late Dr Margery Blackie, (Homeopathic Physician to HM Queen Elizabeth) at the famous 18 Thurloe street practice, and at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital.
Since the late 1980’s, Aaron has managed a successful integrated medical practice in Liverpool, he utilises both Classical Homeopathy and Voll’s techniques learnt in Germany, some 20 years ago he accidentally discovered a process that detects the most indicated and appropriate Homeopathic medicine, he is presently researching this possibility further before releasing a paper at some future time.
In recent years he has also attained consultant practising privileges at three local hospitals, within the private sector.
Following the recommendations of the House of Lords CAM report 2000, he was a selected member of the Department of Health (DH) funded steering committee to examine Chinese & Herbal Medicines practice within the UK, the outcomes producing the first official report for the UK Minister of State for Health in 2008.
Lord Ward-Atherton has held the Witley & Hurcott titles since 2003, previously held by the late William Humble David Ward the 4th Earl of Dudley, and was awarded a grant of arms in 2005 from the College of Arms London, which carries historical features linked to the late 4th Earl’s Coat of Arms – denoting the Ward’s Earls of Dudley. This has given an immense opportunity to highlight various charities and good causes throughout the year.
He is a long-term advocate and campaigner of patient treatment choice in the NHS, and has been a Patron of the Integrated Therapies Unit for cancer care at the Christie Hospital NHS Trust Foundation Manchester since 2006, as well as patron for the AKU Research Society at the University of Liverpool medical school.
In 2011 he was appointed an Ambassador to the City of Liverpool in Partnership with the ACC Liverpool, and his long term supporter of the State of Israel.
