Description
The diversity of living organisms has led to their classification into separate kingdoms, but many properties of living things, such as mechanosensitivity or topotactism, are widely shared. Furthermore, the organisms of the different kingdoms may strongly interact. For instance, viruses, fungi and bacteria cohabit to form the animal microbiota, and fungi ensure inter-plant signaling through underground hyphal networks.
The Pierre-Gilles de Gennes Institute organizes a one day workshop dedicated to plants and fungi with the deliberated choice of multidisplinarity. Our goal is to bring together physicists, biologists and microfluidic scientists around the most recent issues raised by these organisms and their interactions, from the cellular to the integrative levels. This event will be organized around six talks delivered by scientists and an artist-researcher coming from different fields, and include several discussion times to favor live exchanges. The event will start at 9:00 am (detailed schedule to download on the left).
Speakers:
Philippe Marmottant (LIPhy, Grenoble), The hydraulic network of trees: flows and catastrophic failure
Catherine Lenne (Université Clermont Auvergne), Perception et sensibilité chez les plantes
Lia Giraud, L'oeuvre-processus : une approche mésologique et esthétique de la sensitivité des plantes et des micro-organismes
Jean-Christophe Palauqui (INRA, Versailles), Cellular aspects of plant morphogenesis
Christophe d’Enfert (Institut Pasteur, Paris), Candida albicans, understanding the biology of a polymorphic fungal pathogen of humans
